It has been my experience that as time goes on Massage Therapists are drawn to many different modalities which naturally become woven together and are presented in their work. In addition to Traditional massage and Energy Work I have been drawn to Tibetan Buddhism and Nonviolent Communication. There is a famous saying in body work, "We keep our issues in our tissues" and I believe that to be true. Through Nonviolent Communication I have learned life serving ways of expression and life serving thought processes. I have been incorporating the Buddhist view of Compassion, the willingness and ability to be with pain, my own or others. I have been using breath work and meditation as a way to relax, become present and heal the mind and by doing so the body. I believe a relaxed body can lead to a relaxed mind and a relaxed mind can lead to a relaxed body. This is the next step on my evolving journey to pull my passions together as The Compassionate Touch Massage.
Meditation has become part of my life and it is not possible to express enough gratitude for the many gifts it has given me. In 2007 my first meditation teacher, Sandy Haggett introduced me to the world of Tibetan Buddhism, ever since I have been studying, practicing and going on retreats. In the winter of 2019 I had the amazing opportunity to spend four months in Nepal to study with Mingyur Rinpoche, one of the greatest meditation teachers of our time,
Nonviolent Communication, NVC, was developed by Marshall Rosenberg in the 1960s and is now being practiced by people all over the world, I have been participating in groups and have attended many workshops since I started in 2007. NVC teaches a way of being in the world that allows for an open hearted presence with an emphasis on empathetic listening. I believe it is necessary for each one of us to become the change we wish to see and that NVC is a beautiful tool to help us bring peace and harmony to ourselves and thus the world.
